Blog Post #10: Rate your Genius Hour effort from 1-10 (with 10 being superior and 1 being minimal). Explain the reasoning for your score.
My effort I would rate at an 6 or 7 because I have not had very much time to work on my project like I would have liked to. If I would have had more time to work on Genius Hour I would have been happier with the outcome of my project and the progress I have made. What is your step-by-step plan to complete your Genius Hour Project? Make an agenda with dates and timelines.
By Friday May 8th I am hoping to have brought my project to the Merriman Farmers Union 4-H Youth Group. They are having a meeting on Thursday May 7th. I hope to bring an all around webpage to the 4-H group to be able to have kids of all ages interested in baking. By Friday May 15th I am hoping to have at least 45 more recipes on my recipes page. By Wednesday May 20th I am hopping to be done with my Genius Hour Project. What progress have you made in the last month on your Genius Hour Project?
I have added recipes that do not have to do with chocolate. I looked on my recipes page and was aware that I had a bunch of recipes that were all chocolate. So I added recipes that did not have chocolate in it. What steps do you plan to take in the next three weeks to further your progress on your project? I plan to talk to the Merriman Farmers Union 4-H Youth Group and introduce my genius hour project to the parents and kids. I also plan to add recipes that are gluten free and allergy free foods so that people with a food allergy can still make and enjoy my Genius Hour Project. Describe the progress you've made this semester on your Genius Hour Project.
I have added some new recipes and I have organized my website so it is easier it access the information. I would have liked to do more on my project this semester, like adding pictures of the outcome of the recipes and videos showing some of the more difficult ways to do certain things. What is the most challenging aspect of your project so far? The most challenging aspect is to find the time to work on my Genius Hour Project. If I had more time, and not as much homework in my other classes I would have gotten more things done this quarter. Why have you decided to keep or change your Genius Hour Project from last semester? How do you envision your Genius Hour to look when it is complete?
I have decided to keep my Genius Hour Project because I have had a lot of fun with it last semester and I believe I can do more with is this semester. I envision many people taking advantage of the recipes, comments, and quickness of my website. What did you learn from perusing the Blogs of the other students participating in Genius Hour/ 20 Time? How can you use what you learned to impact your own Genius Hour project/ Ted talk? What progress do you still need to make towards your Genius Hour Project? I have learned how to make my Genius Hour Project easier to maneuver and find. I have had time to find out what people like to make and how to make recipes easier to find.
I can use what I have learned to make my Genius Hour project/ Ted talk better by knowing what people look for in a website. People like to find what they are looking for easily, be able to find the website easily, and not have to read through pages of information that they do not want to know about. How Might/might not Genius Hour support Ken's ideas about how to change education?
How could you incorporate what you saw into your own TED talk?
I could practice my TED talk in front of a group of my friends to get all of my nerves out. I could also try to stand still. Knowing everything about my topic is a really good idea. Wearing a nice outfit for my TED talk would present myself as if I knew what I was doing. What kinds of ideas about presentation skills did you think about as Sir Ken Robinson presented his ideas about education?
I thought about how Sir Ken stood, acted, and presented himself. Sir Ken stood still. He did not walk around or fidget with anything. He acted like he had talked in front of crowds hundreds of times. He acted as if he had not been cracking many jokes the entire time he was talking. He was very series looking. Sir Ken did not wear a t-shirt and jeans. He wore a nice suit that presented himself as a professional. Describe the most useful resource you have found to help you develop your Genius Hour Project?
I have found that the internet had been a great help with my Genius Hour Project. All I have to do is look up what recipe I want then I can link that page with the recipe on it to my Recipes page. It is that simple and just as easy for people to find when they look on my website. My site is even kid friendly. I will put more easy, kid friendly recipes on my recipes page. I will find those recipes by looking on the internet. How could I use my Genius Hour time more effectively? I could double how many recipes I put on my page. Or I could think up recipes to look up or get recipes from home to put on my page during my Genius Hour time. I have had a few suggestions about what to put on my recipes page, but it would be great if I could get some more. If you have any recipes you would like to share please add them in a comment. If you have any comments you would like to share feel free to comment.
If you had an unlimited amount of time and funds to make your Genius Project all it could be, what would that look like?
I would have a blog/ site that would be flourishing with how many people used it. There would be lots of recipes to try and you could post information that could help with any recipes that you found helpful. Of course it would be all about baking and there would be advertising. My project will be kid friendly and adults can easily find what they are looking for quickly. If I had all the time I wanted and as much funds as it would be to make this project I could put all the new recipes in a book to be sent or could be purchased by the people who use my site often. I would put all of the cookie recipes on one page, all the bar recipes on another page, and so on. That way every thing is organized, and easy to find. That way know one has to look for hours through all the recipes. With one click they could find information and recipes on just about every thing they want to know. what excites you most about your genius hour project?I am excited most about what new recipes I may find or receive. I am really excited about learning new things about baking. There are many things I already know about baking but there is more that I don't know. What concerns you most about your genius hour project?I am most concerned about not learning any thing new or any new recipes. I really like to bake new things, but if I don't find or receive any new recipes I will have nothing new to bake. What progress have you made so far with your project?I have found about three new recipes on Google. I am hoping to find some more recipes soon. Other than that I have not made much progress yet.
